Sorry we missed you!

You may have noticed The Big OH! took the week off. That's not to say we weren't doing anything - we were. We also just happened to make the one mistake bloggers should never do: we weren't writing about any of it.

So let's take a look at The Week in Sexual Politics, and we promise to never go away again!

Tuesday: We were signing up for a volunteer shift at Comfest! If you'll be in Columbus June 26-28, come down to Goodale Park and visit us at the Freedom Of Choice Ohio booth. There, you can sign a petition in support of increasing Comprehensive Sex Education in our schools, as well as answering sexual health trivia questions to win condoms.

Wednesday: We read Connie Schultz's wonderful column in the Plain Dealer "on the Issue of Abortion..." She evoked the wisdom of Gloria Steinem to help cope with the murder of one man by another because of a women's reproductive issue. Steinem said, "Trust women. All anyone has to say is, 'I trust women to make the right choices for their own lives.'"

Schultz also hit upon the trouble of disorganization in the movement to protect rights and increase funding for health services programs. She observed that disagreement between pro-choice leaders can create lost opportunities to build momentum.

Thursday: There was a wonderful memorial for Dr. Tiller held in Columbus. The event was joined by other memorials around Ohio and the nation. Thanks goes out to NARAL Pro-Choice Ohio for organizing the event. A similar event will be held in Cincinnati tomorrow. For more info, contact University of Cincinnati Medical Students for Choice at ucmsfc at gmail dot com.

Friday: We were checking the calendar to note how soon Pride events were happening in Columbus and Cleveland. Pride festivals kick off their gay parades this Saturday. (Cincinnati LGBTQ folks hit the roller coasters at King's Island in September.) If you're part of the LGBTQ community or just "Straight but Not Narrow-Minded" then join the festivities to celebrate sexual equality both as a lifestyle and as a legislative priority.
